" We have used KPR Rust Remover liquid in a 400 gallon dipping tank to remove rust from a variety of
engine components (blocks, heads, cams, cranks, rods, etc.) and some multi-metal parts. The mechanics and apprentices appreciate how easy it is to use and the rust free condition of
treated parts.

HOW KPR Safe Rust Remover Liquid Works
Safe Liquid Rust Remover works at a pH of 6.1 to 7 (neutral) through selective chelation. This is a process in which a large synthetic molecule forms a bond with metals and holds them in solution. Most chelating agents bind many different metals. The active ingredient in KPR Rust Remover liquid and KPR Rust Remover Gel bonds to iron exclusively. It can remove iron from iron oxide, but is too weak to remove iron from steel because the iron is held much more strongly. Click above for more on "How it works" .
How to Use (Directions)
KPR Rust Remover Liquid is easy to use. Fully immerse the rusted item in KPR Rust Remover Liquid and check the rust removal progress in about 30 minutes; no scrubbing necessary.
Soak times will vary from 30 minutes to 24 hours depending on severity of rust, type of steel, and temperature. KPR Liquid safe rust removeris water based, therefore the active molecules will slow down as temperature decreases and increase as temperature increases. We recommend utilizing KPR Liquid Rust Remover at a bath temperature above 65 F or normal room temperature.
Use on Weapons and Firearms
KPR Rust Remover LiquidSafe Rust Remover is used by gunsmiths and enthusiasts and law enforcement agencies. KPR Rust Remover Liquid removes weapon finishes such as Bluing, Parkerizing, Zinc Phosphate and Browning. Blueing and zinc phosphate coatings (heavy zinc per MIL-DTL-16232 and light zinc per TT-C-490) can be removed both at room temperature (30 minutes) and 118 dergrees Fahrenheit (15 minutes). Anodizing, powder coating, chrome, nickel, paint, and most other coatings will not be removed as long as they do not contain oxides. KPR Liquid Rust Remover will not harm lead or solder points. To de-rust the inside of a bore, plug one end and completely fill bore with KPR Rust Remover Liquid. Let sit for approximately 30-45 minutes and pour out. Oil with Nox-Rust 7800 or other corrosion preventative.
METAL CLEANING VS. RUST REMOVING
Safe biodegradable KPR Rust Remover Liquidrust remover has a surfactant to aid in penetrating oils and dirt. However the presence of surface contaminants will slow down the rust removal process. The soils must be penetrated before KPR Rust Remover Liquid can come in contact with the rust. Additionally, heavy soil residue can shorten the life of KPR Rust Remover Liquid Oil, grease and other soils should be removed prior to de-rusting with a detergent wash or one of our degreasers then rinse the part with water to remove any carry over soils and proceed to remove rust.
Rust Prevention PaintingCoating Packaging
Once the item has been de-rusted , you have several options:
- Wash and rinse the item off and go to the next process for painting, coating, or other process.
- Wash & rinse the item off and apply a medium term or long term rust inhibitor.
- Wash and rinse the item and the dip it back into a clean batch of KPR Rust Remover Liquid remove and let dry. KPR Rust Remover Liquid will provide about 10-14 days of rust inhibition, depending storage conditions. Wash and rinse with water again, when you are ready to paint or apply a long-term corrosion preventative.
- Wash and rinse the item and when it is dry place the item inside Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor Packaging such as VCI paper or VCI poly. When the clean dry corrosion free item is removed from the VCI packaging it is immediately ready for use, further processing, application of a coating or for plating.
- Air or Power dry the item and place inside VCI packaging. The item will require a quick wash (rinse) with ordinary water prior to the application of a coating or corrosion inhibitor when the clean rust free part is removed from the VCI packaging .
KPR Rust Remover Liquid Shipping and Disposal Requirements
KPR Rust Remover Liquid is non-hazardous and ships via U.S. Mail, any courier, air freight or regular freight (class 55). The product is sewer-able in the neat form and in most cases only the chelated iron content of the solution will dictate disposal requirements. Shelf Life Working Capacity & Storage
KPR Rust Remover Liquid has an unlimited shelf life and can be re-used until it is completely spent. The only loss due to evaporation is the water content. Protect from freezing.
Safe biodegradable KPR Rust Remover Liquid has a tremendous work load. One gallon can remove 1/2 pound or more of pure dry rust. Rust is about 1/17 the weight of iron by volume. On average, one gallon de-rusts up to 300 pounds of light to moderately rusted steel. As the iron is removed from the iron oxide, carbon from the rust is released. Some parts may have a black film finish after using KPR Rust Remover Liquid. The black is carbon from high carbon steel. Generally high carbon steel is used in making items that are flexible such as springs, saw blades, etc... High carbon steel and tool alloy steel items, when de-rusted, will have a darker appearance. The carbon can be removed simply by wiping with a cloth when rinsing with water.
As you de-rust items with the solution the rust remover solution becomes dark. The more items you de-rust the blacker it becomes. KPR Rust Remover Liquid is spent when it is pitch black and no longer performs.
Store in a cool dry place in the original container. Do not store below 32 F. Protect from freezing.
